Shop Til You Bop January 9, 2010

ShopBop.com is basically my designer wish list. Its easy to want everything when “everything” consists of Marc Jacobs, Theory, Juicy Couture, and Rebecca Minkoff. Here are my picks, the latest and greatest of ShopBop.com.

A girl can never have too many party dresses. I’m into short and sweet styles, with feminine ruffles and bows. Party dresses are meant to be unapologetically girly.

When I say J Crew, you think beautiful basics for work, and casual pieces that are perfect for a weekend in the Hamptons, or a photoshoot on a yacht, right?  I think J Crew’s treasure is really its stylists.  I would love to meet the amazing team of stylists who put together the catalog looks.  They can turn the most simple pair of khaki trousers into a gorgeous, unique look.

I think the secret is layering.  Piling on the pieces lets you mix and match colors, textures, and silhouettes to achieve something out of the ordinary.  My mom and I were discussing how practical their creations are for real life.  I decided you’d have to live in a cold climate to achieve the kind of layering done in the catalogs.  However, I would gladly strut around town looking like I just stepped out of a catalog any day.  The J Crew stylists are style magicians.

Best of Piperlime

Piperlime is a wonderland of shoes, bags, jewelry, and now clothes that I could get lost in for days. Its like my Narnia. Coming up with my absolute favorites was difficult, but obviously necessary. My favorite labels this season turned out to be Trina Turk and Marc by Marc Jacobs.  I found great sequin tops that will keep sparkling long after New Years Eve, coats in interesting cuts to keep away the winter blues, ruffled dresses, enough booties and platforms to keep you kicking, and some great accessories.  My favorites are the electric blue platforms by Rock and Republic, and House of Harlow’s Gladiator Cuff.  This is how a lady shows off her punk rock side without looking gothic.

Best of Martin + Osa December 27, 2009

Martin and Osa Johnson

Martin and Osa Johnson

One of the more upscale American Eagle brands, Martin + Osa, is named for real lifeMartin+Osa explorers Martin and Osa Johnson.  The couple from Kansas pioneered the safari in the early 1900’s and produced many books and films about their adventures, documenting the wilderness, wildlife, and tribal customs of remote Africa and the South Pacific.  The brand Martin & Osa has come a long way from the wilds of Africa, and is now a great place to find luxurious basics and sophisticated accessories.

Martin + Osa put a twist on the basics with stylish cuts and refined fabrics.  There’s no reason your everyday wardrobe can’t be a little special.  I’m into silk, flannel, and velvet for winter this year.

Martin + Osa’s fantastic line of leather extends to the handbags and clutches.  Their accessories usually has a great mix of tough chains, metallic accents, and feminine details.  It’s also a great place to find really nice leather belts.

Martin + Osa is also a great place to find more sophisticated pieces when you are transitioning from your college wardrobe of sweats and t-shirts to a more professional look.  The cuts are very work appropriate, but still fun and special.  I found a navy pleated sheath dress from Martin + Osa a couple years ago that has been my go to outfit for anything ever since.  Happy hunting!
